Having collected base hits in each of his first two games, “can’t-miss” phenom Mickey Mantle played his first career road game at Washington’s Griffith Stadium. In that contest, Mantle legged out his first career triple, struck out for the first of 1,710 times and endured his first career loss. This scorecard was issued at that historic game of “firsts.” The pre-printed lineups have been marked in pencil to show Mantle as a starter in place of Bauer. The item is well preserved with a tiny cut at the edge of the spine.
