Allegedly in tears after failing to deliver a hit in his first 12 big league at-bats, Hall of Famer Willie Mays was personally given a vote of confidence by skipper Leo Durocher who, in colorful language, cited the prospectís alarming .477 batting average that prompted his promotion from Class AAA Minneapolis. The offered program was issued at Nicollet Park for one of Maysí final auditions in the American Association. The 20-page guide features player bios/stats and advertisements hawking local establishments. The center pages feature scoring grids (marked in pencil) with pre-printed lineups for a contest between the Indianapolis Indians and host Millers. The contest was played on May 12, less than two weeks prior to Maysí promotion. With covers and all pages intact, the guide shows (VG-EX) quality with expected minor creases/folds from a day at the ballpark.
